Open new Tab with/without enabled Navigation
When opening a link in a new tab on a page with navigation enabled, the navigation in the new tab is always disabled.
It would be nice if the page in the new tab would used the same setting as the site from which the link was opened.

Dear Martin
Thank you for your response and your ongoing efforts to improve Checkmk. I truly appreciate the work being done to enhance the user experience.
Opening new tabs with or without enabled navigation would significantly improve usability for all users by reducing repetitive adjustments. This enhancement could be done with minimal effort in a pragmatic manner while providing considerable value. It is particularly noteworthy that many users have expressed interest in this functionality.
I understand that implementing new features requires careful prioritization and resource allocation, and it is not always possible to address every idea immediately. However, given its position as one of the top 15 ideas, it would be appreciated to understand why such a highly ranked idea that improves the usability for all customers has not yet been prioritized over the past years.
More transparency would help to strengthen trust in the feedback system.

DominikOptionally, it would be nice if this could be configurable in the "User Interface Settings". Similar to "Show more / Show less" option.
Maybe with the options:
- Do not show navigation on new tabs (default).
- Always show navigation
- Use the same setting as the current page <<What the OP said>> -

Lars SörensenWhy has an idea that could significantly improve the user experience, help people work more efficiently every day, be well-accepted by customers, and be implemented with little effort been overlooked for years?

Martin Hirschvogel AdminDear Lars,
we have done a huge amount of user experience improvements in the last years.
See:

With many more done in Checkmk 2.4 and even more planned in 2.5.
As you can see, there is a lot we have done and it is a topic we take very seriously and invest substantial time into.
We focus for each release onto specific areas of the product, to make fundamental improvements there. E.g. Notifications in 2.4. Within these so called initiatives, we look at various sources, including the ideas portal for inspiration, and then prioritize thoroughly, internally.
Additionally, we reserve time for so called UX quick wins. These are items, which can be done at little effort in a pragmatic manner. We fill this list with learnings from discussions with users, ideas from here, and internal observations. We prioritize these as well, again internally, considering many factors.

Martin Hirschvogel AdminWe take your input seriously and value it, that's why both Saleh and I invest a lot of time into answers. We could also just ignore it and let a bot answer. Saleh ensures that new ideas are in a good state and responds to as many comments as possible.
However, we can't justify for each of the now more than 1000 ideas, why we will do something, and why we won't do it now. This is beyond feasible. I ask for your understanding here.
Why? Our mantra is that each individual focuses on building the software, and not become so-called paper tigers. Every minute should be focused on improving the software somewhere. While Saleh could also evaluate each idea for feasibility, technical effort with a developer and put it into a ranked list and communicate it. The outcome however would be no single feature, just a nice paper. I personally prefer if Saleh works on features, like currently on monitoring of Podman, Audiocodes and Cisco ESA.

TravisThis is a super basic request that ought to have been included in the app from its inception. That three years later this feature still isn’t implemented is astounding.

Martin Hirschvogel AdminLars:
a) We prioritize also based on effort. Several of the ideas in the top 15 are projects, which would take a significant time. Therefore, a lot of them will always stay in.
b) Also the votes are not representative, therefore the ideas portal is not a ranked list. It is a system, which can be easily gamed and is heavily gamed to push ideas of individual companies. -

Martin Hirschvogel AdminThis idea is also not describing what the actual problem is. It goes back to the: if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Opening tabs is a consequence of bad UX in a product. Tackling the bad UX is the right thing, not putting bandaid on things. And that's what we are doing. See the notifications, slide-ins and quick setup, which we introduced in 2.4
@Travis:
Especially if the bandaid requires a entire rework of the GUI, if I understood the devs right, because of the iframe concept, which was selected as the method back in the days.
We are doing this major rework at the moment, which is requirement for such changes. We are making good progress on this, parts of the GUI have already been replaced and this allows much more powerful features across the board. But an entire replacing of the GUI framework without changing the GUI entirely is a long process.
I ask for your understanding. -
