Truncation of Service Description and Summary in selective Views and Reports
While it has been possible for a long time to globally change service descriptions or summaries this has always affected every aspect of the checkmk monitoring. All services of hosts, reports and views as well as selection regex for service matching will use the new description.
There is times where it is beneficial (eg. reports) to be able to change the service description to for example shorten it to its necessary information or make the report more readable without interfering with the rest of the monitoring system or the full detailed output that the all services of host would be showing.

We agree with the problem completely. However, we believe the solution should not be an added configuration burden on the user.
Rather than requiring you to manually define and maintain a separate "short name" for every service, we believe the product itself should be "smart" enough to handle this.
Our solution approach would be a context-aware shortening of names. We will take this under further consideration but do not have a concrete timeline yet.
