Assign parent host via rule
There should be a rule to assign one or multiple parent hosts, based on the common conditions (folder, host label, host tag, host name).

Mohamed Saleh AdminHi Leon,
Thank you for posting on the Ideas Portal!
In order to help us and other users fully understand the idea, could you provide more details regarding the use case or the business problem where this feature would be used, for example is this in the context of the Parent scan, DCD, or another part of Checkmk?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Warm regards,
Your Checkmk Team -

Leon BuhleierHi Mohamed,
thank you for your feedback.
There is no special feature used. It is just that you can do most things via rules and assigning a parent host is one of the few things you can't.
In one case for example there are multiple work sites (not checkmk sites!) where hosts are being monitored. To each of this sites, the VPN gateways are also being monitored by ping. And those VPN gateways are the parent hosts of the hosts on the corresponding sites.
In my opinion it would have been nicer, to be able to assign a host tag "Site xyz" and set the parent hosts via rule. It would be especially useful, if you are importing a bunch of hosts via the csv bulk import. There, you can't assign parent hosts, but you can assign host tags.
I hope this clarifies the use case.
Best regards,
Leon Buhleier
